New arena will break ground spring 2018

New Iowa Arena in Coralville

Two years from now, people could be enjoying a game or listening to a concert at the new Iowa Arena in Coralville.

TV9 checked with the city Tuesday to see when this project could break ground. The city administrator says the hope is early next year.

The arena will be at the Iowa River Landing which is just off Interstate 80 in Coralville. The arena will have a seating capacity of more than 62-hundred people. And it will be able to host everything from hockey to concerts.

In June of last year, the state approved $12 million for the project. The city is still working on the final design and fund raising.

The Iowa City – Coralville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau held its annual luncheon Tuesday. Speakers talked about how the area needs this arena to keep current and future hotels thriving.
