After an award-winning career spanning 45 years, Joel Davy, FAIA, has retired from the profession of architecture.
Joel Davy’s design awards range from the North Dakota Test of Time award for iconic architecture to one of the Top 10 designs of the year by Time Magazine, and Joel himself has been recognized for his lifetime of work as a recipient of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) North Dakota chapter’s 2015 Outstanding Achievement Award. He was the first architect in North Dakota to become LEED accredited and has designed nearly a dozen LEED buildings over the past ten years. Joel was most recently named to the AIA’s College of Fellows – only the fourth architect in North Dakota history to do so, and the first to be honored for design. The College of Fellows is the AIA’s highest membership honor, awarded to “architects who have made significant contributions to architecture and society on a national level and who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession.”
In addition to his built spaces, Joel influenced the architecture industry through his work in the North Dakota University Department of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, the North Dakota Historic Preservation Review Board, the Minnesota Design Team, and the American Institute of Architects. Born in Minot, Joel holds degrees from North Dakota State University and Columbia University.
