Starion Sports Complex will open Sept. 29

Mandan Park District

An event to celebrate the grand opening of the new home for Mandan sports teams will be held next week.

A high school football game on Sept. 29 will mark the official opening of the Starion Sports Complex, 111 Old Red Trail N.E. in Mandan. The 84,000-square-foot complex includes two skating rinks, 2,000 seats overlooking a track and turf football field and a gymnastics facility.

The complex is owned and operated by Mandan Park District.

A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 29, following a tailgating party from 4 to 6 p.m. before the Mandan Braves and Legacy Sabers kick-off football game at 6:30 p.m.

The complex includes 450 paved parking spaces, eight locker rooms, a hockey training room, concessions, office space and a Mandan Park skate rental location.

There are two ice rinks: Schwan Cadillac Rink and the Schwan Buick GMC Rink. The Schwan Cadillac Community Room, overlooking the Cadillac Rink, has space for about 50 people.

The Leon House Track includes eight lanes and field space for pole vault, long jump and throwing events. The Dakota Star Gymnastic facility is scheduled to open in late October.
