A significant day took place Monday in the overall plan for the NorthStar Christian Academy campus in Alexandria. A number of students and VIPs broke ground on the new 70,000 square foot sports complex. The NorthStar Sports Complex will have two sides to it. One side will have a half-field practice space for soccer and lacrosse. It will also have an infield practice diamond and batting cages for baseball and soccer. There is also room for golf hitting bays.
The other side will hold a sheet of ice. The primary use will be for the FCA Hockey program, but will also be available for community use as well. Rick Randazzo is the FCA Hockey national director. He talks about the status of the program with the new building now starting to take shape.
Gary Steffes is an FCA Hockey Staff member who has played professional hockey for the last 7 years at the ECHL and AHL levels. He’s excited to be a part of the new program. The Michigan native has moved a lot with his professional hockey career and is excited to call Alexandria home.
Vern Anderson is the chair for the NorthStar Sports Complex’s Development Committee. The complex is all privately funded and with a price tag of more than $8,000,000 it is requiring a lot of people to buy into the philosophy behind the complex. The staff will work closely with youth, high school sports and club teams and coaches from the local community and from across the country. The directors hope it will be a place where athletes can train while being uplifted and invested in by servant leaders and coaches. Vern says he feels it’s a place and a concept that is well worth the investment.
The Development Committee has raised more than 3 million dollars and needs to raise an additional 5 million. They are hopeful that the complex will be ready by September of 2018.
