Minot State is working to bring many of its facilities into the 21st century from the renovation of the MSU Dome to making energy efficiency a priority in several buildings on campus.
The university had to shut down the lower floor of the Minot State student center following a pipe burst earlier this year. Now they say they have their sights set on bringing it back with students in mind.
“How we design a space that students want for their needs individually and also for student government, clubs and organizations, it really has to be a space that’s designed for them that meets their needs,” said Kevin Harmon, MSU Vice President of student affairs.
Harmon says they’re making the students’ needs a priority in the design decisions because, after all, they’ll be the ones using it.
Students are already giving feedback on some of the first examples of what the new space could look like.
“Really like the idea of having a fireplace in the students center and some couches where students can just hang out as well. Those pictures seemed to be very popular,” said MSU Student Government President Janel Bortoluzzi
Bortoluzzi said it’s on the student body to bring this project to fruition.
“I think it’s very important that we have a strong student voice and I want students to know that this project won’t happen unless they vote for it,” Bortoluzzi said.
Making a decision that could impact generations of students.
Harmon said that they are still in the exploratory phase of this project as they gather feedback and comments from students and faculty.
