Brookings South Main Fire Station #4

Brookings, South Dakota

First to rush to an emergency, the Brookings Fire Department is anticipating the growth of their city by constructing a new South Main Fire Station. The Brookings Fire Department staff is comprised of volunteer firefighters who are professionally trained to protect their community. This 5,500 SF fire station accommodates 4 apparatus bays (3 engines & 1 rescue boat), a support space and a display space for their vintage 1949 GMC Firetruck.

The building is designed for multiple future expansions as the city grows and develops around them – adding 4 additional apparatus bays to the West and a residential space to the East. The building has large glazed overhead doors and transom windows to harvest the natural light deep into the apparatus bays and to showcase the apparatus. The building is primarily composed of sturdy precast, delicately contrasted with metal panels and storefront glazing. This modern fire station will be a symbol of safety and contemporary design for this growing community.
