Campbell Library

East Grand Forks, Minnesota

The East Grand Forks Campbell Library replaced an existing, vastly undersized library space, which was decimated by flooding in 1997. The new library anchors the northern end of the revitalized downtown. Situated at the crest of a hill, adjacent the city’s largest park, it acts as a virtual magnet for learning. The exterior uses materials such as cast stone sills, rusticated masonry base, deep red brick, and anodized aluminum window units, all set under a soaring pitched roofline.

The 17,400 square foot building houses local archives, community meeting rooms, a children’s learning area, and a vaulted main stack room. Visitors can also take advantage of community education classes, Internet access, and other civic programs. JLG Architects completed the work on the library in conjunction with the architectural firm of Brown, Healey, Stone & Saur of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
