A smaller university with a large appetite for technology, innovation and research — DSU’s new Madison Cyber Labs facility, puts on full display their passion for innovation. This innovation space is the melting pot and breeding ground for collaborative problem solving bringing technology, business, engineering and other disciplines together. The new building brings the Madison Cyber Labs under a common roof and adds many others. The CAHIT: Center for the Advancement of Health Information Technology, for instance, has operated for more than a decade as a research and development center. The CybHER Institute was established several years ago to generate interest among women in cybersecurity and related fields.

Several of the Madison Cyber Labs will cross over between academia and industry, including:

• Deep Red Lab, whose mission is to apply existing knowledge and develop new methods of identifying security flaws. The Deep Red team applies the techniques and methods of sophisticated attackers to the target organizations under controlled environments.
• Defend Lab, whose mission is to create and apply state-of-the-art techniques in analyzing and detecting evidence of cyberthreats while creating indicators of compromise.
• Madrid Lab, whose mission is to provide initial analysis of suspect, unknown or malicious software along with the ability for deep technical analysis.

Other Madison Cyber Labs will assist utilities and other businesses with products connected to the Internet of Things. The PATRIOT Lab, which stands for Protection and Threat Research for the Internet of Things, will research and propose solutions to secure the IOT.
