Ojibwa Millennium School

The Ojibwa Millennium School complex became a reality following a JLG-led facility Study and Master Plan. The Bureau of Indian Affairs funded the work as the community and reservation were growing very fast. The final outcome was to convert a private catholic K-8 school to a new PK-12 facility to be located just outside of town on a 40 acre site.

The study revealed very poor conditions at the original school (including a multitude of safety and health issues) and the final solution could easily handle the entire region’s remaining educational needs allowing everyone to attend schools built within the past ten years. The new PK-12 school Ojibwa Millennium School was the first BIA project in North Dakota to incorporate a comprehensive “Green” building approach aligned with the USGBC® LEED® rating system.

The final solution is a two-section school designed to use no power from the electrical grid. It is an all electric solution featuring a geo-transfer heating system which will operate from its own wind power source upon completion of phase two.
