Ralph Engelstad Arena

University of North Dakota

UND’s 12,000-seat Ralph Engelstad Arena was gifted by a single benefactor to create the world’s finest hockey stadium. The primary purpose: to keep the school’s Division 1 hockey program competitive for years to come. The building is designed to compliment the existing campus architecture through its use of familiar materials and design vocabulary. The five-story arena’s main lobby area includes ticket sales and coaches’ offices, and is highlighted by a sky-lit pro shop and spacious “Sioux Tradition” area displaying memorabilia. The ice level includes the largest collegiate state-of-the-art locker and training area, players lounge, and study/classroom. An additional olympic-size ice sheet is used for practice, youth, and tournament events.
