Turtle River Visitor Center

Turtle River State Park

This new All-Season Visitor Center replaces an outdated public information and staff office building in the Park, an oasis in the middle of the eastern North Dakota prairie.

The design is influenced by historic Civilian Conservation Corps architecture within the Park, with an updated palette of durable materials, including fiber cement board and batten siding, clad windows, and a fieldstone base. The interior allows for a cathedral ceiling and exposed trusses over the administrative and CCC interpretive display, with simple materials and an earthy color scheme.

Plan features include room for the public – displays, meeting rooms, outdoor observation space, information desk, as well as offices for the park staff.
