UND Memorial Union
University of North Dakota
After the campus bookstore relocated to the new Barnes & Noble (also designed by JLG), students opted to spend their time there. The remodel of the Memorial Union refits the building to once again become the social center of campus.
On the main level, a new Colonnade defines the major circulation routes. Clusters of lounge seating, along with a fireplace and hearth provide an opportunity for students to gather and linger along the thoroughfare. An Internet café, non-alcoholic pub, and coffee bar for socializing and Internet surfing anchor the west end of the Colonnade, while a food court anchors the east end. The Information Center, Copy Services, Student Government, Student Organizations, University Credit Union, a convenience store, and other retail spaces align the Colonnade.
The food court was redesigned to add new food franchises in a friendly atmosphere with seating for more than 240, with the hope to double sales for the Union and cater to the University’s 15,000 students, faculty, and staff, as well as the public.
