USD DakotaDome
Vermillion, South Dakota
The DakotaDome is a 5,000-seat multi-purpose indoor stadium at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Opened in 1979 for a cost of $8.2 million, it is home to the University of South Dakota Coyotes for numerous athletic departments and events, including football, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and track.
As one of the first (and now oldest) indoor football stadiums in the nation, the DakotaDome is due for upgrades. Phase one (finished in 2018) added new football outdoor practice facilities. Phase two, which broke ground in February, will increase the seating capacity to 10,000, add new concourses and premium seating as well as all new football team facilities. The master plan and future phases will include new front entry, team store, updated branding, USD Hall of Fame and upgrades to all other team spaces.
